We love Dale and couldn't think of a better way to honor him, his legacy and his music that putting out the new Boon Dogs Smoke and Mirrors album with some of his other amazing work and two of my favorite classic albums his first solo project, Speak Into the Machine and the epic blues album Testimony, from his Kentucky Cadillacs band. We've called this Kentucky Smoke, because it's smokin' hot blues and solo work from Kentucky native, Dale Thompson.

Dale Thompson Kentucky Smoke! is a 3 CD set that contains the brand new 13  song album by Dale Thompson and the Boon Dogs called Smoke & Mirrors. It also contains a completely remastered version of two classics, The Kentucky Cadillacs Testimony album that was originally released in 1998 as well as Dale's first solo album Speak Into the Machine that was released in 1995.

Smoke and Mirrors

Since 1997 until 2021, when I formed The Boon Dogs, I played very little Blues music. But since 2021 I've been inspired releasing the fourth Boon Dogs album to date  which shows tremendous growth for me as an artist. It's one of my most thoughtfully provocative works that I have ever indulged in. It's rooted in Bible scripture and influenced by the likes of Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen. Austin Dodig saved this project when he stepped up and said, let me finish it for you. The melodies were set in concrete, the lyrics had all been recorded and Austin came in like a warm blanket and cradled the project close and breathed life into what would have never been resurrected. God always sends what you need, and who you need at the right time.

Speak Into the Machine

Dale.

"Speak into the Machine was my very first studio solo album. On the album, I played most of the instruments and gave the engineer Hoiwe Gano a lot of liberty to interject his ideas for it. We wanted to have fun with it and what we ended up with, is an experimental oddity that I am very happy with. There were no formulas to follow or parameters to adjust to. It was recorded without borders or restrictions. Quite a bit of the material was written and recorded on the spot, in the studio. Nothing was rehearsed." I consider this my first full solo album away from Bride and is nothing but abstract, experimental songs in which Howie Gano the engineer and I did whatever we wanted to do musically. I played nearly every instrument on the record which gave it a nice loose feel to it."

Dale Thompson and the Kentucky Cadillacs - Testimony

The Kentucky Cadillacs "Testimony," followed "The Religious Overtones and I brought in many of the same musicians. Bob Ramsey is a Louisville icon in the music business. Having Bob orchestrate my ideas and convey them to the other players was paramount in creating a very cool project. The musicians that helped me create "Testimony," were top-notch studio players who had no trouble adapting to my unconventional and unorthodox way of recording. Many of the players have passed on and this makes these first couple of blues works so special.

Then we jump many years ahead and I find myself immersed from wanting to be something I was never meant to be into a place where I felt most comfortable which was the blues with The Kentucky Cadillacs, yet even with this release I showcased the abstract mind and eclectic creativity which had been my catalyst in the beginning to expand my horizons.

Again, we leap forward on a chord and a prayer and I find myself here and now releasing one of the most thoughtfully provocative works that I have ever indulged in The Boon Dogs fourth release Smoke and Mirrors.

Kentucky Cadillacs used many of the same musicians as The Religious Overtones. Rob Johnson of guitar and Bob Ramsey on keys breathed life into what I had composed. It is without a doubt a follow up to The Religious Overtones. This collection of songs was a little harder hitting musically. I turned the musicians loose on it and simply let them shine and it shows.
